ALEX MORGAN FOUNDATION PROVIDES GRANT AND GIFTS TO NEW MOMS for MOTHER’S DAY
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (May 12, 2023) – The Alex Morgan Foundation, launched earlier this year on March 21, celebrated Mother’s Day today by providing a cash grant to Casa Familiar in support of the Promotora program, which assists with the development of women as community advocates. 20 Promotoras attended the grant presentation and a Mother’s Day breakfast that followed.
The foundation also partnered with Nike to develop custom kit of essentials to gift to new moms in honor of Mother’s Day. The kits contain a mini Nike soccer ball, a Nike outfit for mom, onesies, socks, and baby blankets, as well as a $250 gift card for food delivery.
“I know first-hand the extra stress that comes with becoming a new mom. Together with Nike, we put together an Essentials Kit to help bring more joy and support to moms in our community,” says Alex Morgan.
At Rady Children’s Hospital, the foundation delivered Nike kits of essentials to a few new moms whose babies are being treated in the hospital. Rady Children’s is the only hospital in the San Diego area dedicated exclusively to pediatric health care and provides care for over 250,000 kids a year.
To close out the day of gifting, the foundation hosted a special lunch for new moms at San Ysidro Health's Maternal & Child Health Center in the heart of San Ysidro. The new moms had previously participated in the Centering Pregnancy Program, which provides comprehensive prenatal care and education to expecting mothers in a supportive group setting.
"The Centering Pregnancy Program has been a great source of support for new moms who are both excited and nervous about becoming mothers. Through a supportive group setting, they have been able to access their provider at every session and build a strong network of peers. This approach has been valuable in helping new moms feel more confident and supported during this exciting but also challenging time," shares Dr. Maria Carriedo-Ceniceros, Chief Medical Officer at San Ysidro Health.
