ALEX MORGAN LAUNCHES FOUNDATION TO CREATE EQUITY & OPPORTUNITY ON THE FIELD AND OFF
The new Alex Morgan Foundation commits to equity in sports, empowering girls, and supporting moms
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (March 21, 2023) – Alex Morgan, forward for the U.S. Women’s National Team and San Diego Wave FC, announced today the formation of the Alex Morgan Foundation, a charitable initiative creating equity and opportunity on the field and off. Focused on sports equity, empowering girls, and supporting moms, the foundation will raise funds to invest in meaningful, action-based programs.
“Fighting for equity in women’s soccer has inspired me to make a positive impact on and off the field,” says Morgan. “I’m proud to launch my foundation in my new home of San Diego and help girls and women find confident paths forward in sport and in life.”
Alex Morgan Foundation will identify the roadblocks preventing girls and women from reaching their full potential and invest in programs that align with the foundation’s core areas of impact – be it field and sports expansion, leadership development, childcare initiatives, or financial assistance.
In its first year, the Alex Morgan Foundation is pledging commitment to a few programs, including Let’s Go South Bay!, a new grassroots organization that will serve the recreational soccer needs for girls in San Diego’s South Bay region, and Casa Familiar, which supports low-income individuals in San Ysidro through initiatives like the Promotora program, which helps develop and support women as community advocates.
The Alex Morgan Foundation also announced the expansion of Alex’s Homebreak program, which brings a local girls team to a Wave FC home game at no cost. The foundation plans to raise funds to help alleviate costs for equipment, travel, competition, and any other financial barriers for each team.
The foundation launches today, Tuesday, March 21, with a community event at Montgomery Middle School, where Morgan and members from Let’s Go South Bay!, Casa Familiar, Alex’s Homebreak, and the Sweetwater Union High School District will hold listening sessions with local moms and teens.
